With the changes in technology, Face ID unlocking technology has become an indispensable part of life. A facial recognition camera can provide help to unlock freely when you hold something in both hands or forget to bring the key. Based on COVID-19, “Touch-less” becomes the focus of the product to reduce contact with objects.

Nice to “Face” You – Yoswit Smart Doorbell is a two-in-one product that combines an instant video doorbell and facial recognition camera. It has the infrared night vision function, which can identify you no matter whether it is day or night, and has an indicator light to remind you whether the identification is successful. Based on the simple installation method, it is suitable for use in the home or office. This product is the first to be applied in the “InnoCell” of the Hong Kong Science Park to create a modern community of smart life and innovative collaboration.

01 Understand
Understand the main functions and the hardware components of the product. Research and analysis the competitor’s product such as the August video doorbell.

02 Ideate
Find the tempered glass supplier to get the samples and sketch the idea with different form shapes.

03 Decide
Decide to use the oblong shape idea and choose the one of the tempered glass supplier with the design drawing. Also, explain the design concept with pointed document to 3D modeling engineer.

04 Prototype
On the tempered glass, try different transparent values of the hole for the camera and IR light. Also, making a 3D printing video doorbell demo.

05 Test & Adjust
Test whether the different components are installed and disassembled smoothly. Use led light to test the light transmittance of tempered glass.

06 Deliver
Install the video doorbell on HKSTP InnoCell different room.

Installation 1: Looks like the hotel smart lock installation. Open the hole on the door edge, then drill holes on the door face.

Installation 2: Peephole installation

In the first tempered glass test, all the openings were made with full transparency, and it was found that the LED light could not emit the soft light.

When trying to plug in the 8 pins facial camera cable, it was found that the opening was too tight, it is difficult to plug and unplug.

In the second test of tempered glass, in addition to the hole of the camera being fully transparent, the other openings are also translucent, but the light emitted by the LED is not soft enough.

In the final test of tempered glass, diffuser film was added this time to make the LED light more uniform and soft.
